Traditional Matted
Traditional Matted templates are used for products that will have an actual cut mat, typically with bevel-cut openings, applied over the image(s). Multiple image openings are supported. When the product is viewed, the image area shown is what will be seen in the final product. Traditional Mats require the cut opening to be smaller than the print size. Typically, a 1/4” Mat Overlap is used. If you are matting a 5”x7” print, the actual cut opening size would usually be 4.5” X 6.5”. Click on Traditional Mats to learn more.
Click on Traditional Matted to learn how to create these in the Product Editor. Mat Overlap can be set in the template, otherwise, the default mat overlap will be applied. When designing a template, the image openings in the template should always be the print size. When the Mat Design is applied, the correct visual area is shown. When in crop mode, the cyan area shown around the opening represents the area of the print covered by the mat.
When this product is ordered, individual images will be sent into production. For simplified product assembly, you can specify “Render Images in Position” when creating your product template. In this case, production will render a composite file, the size of the mat, with the images in the exact position. When the mat is overlayed, the final cropping is exactly as shown in ProSelect. If you design a Traditional Matted Template, apply a Mat Design, and order the product in ProSelect, you can then print a detailed report. The report has all the required cutting dimensions for a framer to custom-cut the mat exactly to your specifications. Go to the top menu, File > Print > Ordered Mats Report.
